I saw that ScienceDaily piece on transmission theory yesterday while grinding beans at 5 AM, and honestly, it made me drop a whole bag of single-origin. The idea that the brain doesn’t manufacture consciousness but just tunes into it like a radio? It’s not new. William James played with the analogy over a century ago, but seeing it splash across a mainstream science feed actually hit me in the chest.
I spent my early twenties scrubbing religion off my hands like it was bad paint. College made me a hardline atheist. Then I started pulling cards just to mess around.
Every time I flipped The High Priestess, that archetypal veil between the conscious mind and whatever’s lurking behind it, I felt this weird pull behind my ribs. Like I was holding a receiver, not a creator. Look, I’m not claiming the universe is whispering secrets to me through coffee stains.
But my experience suggests divination works less like fortune-telling and more like pattern recognition under pressure. Carl Jung called it synchronicity. Meaningful coincidence without a causal link.
Transmission theory basically flips the hard problem of consciousness on its head. Instead of trying to explain how dead matter produces subjective experience, it asks what if experience is fundamental and the brain just filters it down? It’s a hypothesis, not a proven fact
