So I've been watching this explosion of tarot content on social media the last few months and honestly? It's fascinating from a chaos magic perspective.

Every other swipe is some 19-year-old doing a "pick a pile" reading with anime aesthetics in the background. Millions of views. And the traditional tarot community is losing their minds about it, calling it diluted, calling it fake, whatever.

But here's the thing. From where I'm sitting, this might be the most effective mass sigil working we've seen in years.

Think about it. You've got millions of people engaging with archetypal imagery in a state of relaxed, semi-hypnotic suggestibility. The scroll itself is a trance state. Jung would've had a field day with this. When someone picks "pile 3" and hears they're about to enter their "twin flame era," they're not really getting a reading. They're planting a belief.

And in chaos magic, belief is the technology. The card is just the container.

What cracks me up is the gatekeepers acting like there's some pure, unsullied tarot tradition being corrupted. The Rider-Waite-Smith deck was basically Arthur Edward Waite's personal syncretic project with Pamela Colman Smith. It wasn't handed down from Atlantis. It was designed to work. And these apps and TikTok readings? They work too, just differently.

I'm not saying the readings are "accurate" in any traditional sense. I'm saying the psychological mechanism is real. You get someone to pick a symbol, then you feed them a narrative, and their reticular activating system starts filtering for confirmation. That's not fraud. That's how meaning-making works.

The real question is what happens when you scale this. When thousands of people collectively charge The Tower or The Star through these viral formats, what does that do to the collective unconscious? Is it just noise, or is something actually being built?

I've been experimenting with sigil-craft that mimics the "pick a pile" format. Same structure, different intent. Results have been weirdly potent.

Anyone else playing with this? Or are y'all just gonna keep complaining about kids on TikTok?

From a numerological perspective, what is happening with TikTok tarot is both fascinating and troubling. The platform accelerates engagement through algorithms that reward novelty and emotional intensity. Tarot, by contrast, rewards depth, patience, and sustained attention to symbolic nuance. The medium is structurally hostile to the message.

In Pythagorean numerology, the number 9 represents completion and wisdom โ€” the endpoint of the single-digit cycle before everything returns to 1. TikTok operates on a very different numerological logic: the 15-second loop, the 3-second attention hook, the infinite scroll. That is the energy of 5 โ€” change, restlessness, dispersion โ€” amplified to pathological extremes.

What is being lost in TikTok tarot is the arcana of timing. In traditional tarot practice, a reading unfolds over minutes, sometimes hours. The querent sits with the spread, feels the spatial arrangement, notices which card their eye returns to. That temporal structure is part of the divination. It is not decoration. Compressing it into a 60-second video strips the practice of its primary mechanism: the space for the unconscious to speak at its own pace.

The democratization is real and valuable. More people encountering tarot is good. But access without depth is not access. It is exposure. And exposure without framework produces the confusion you are seeing โ€” people who have "done tarot" because they watched a TikTok but could not interpret a single card if you handed them the deck.

"When thousands of people collectively charge The Tower or The Star through these viral formats, what does that do to the collective unconscious?"

I actually agree with your conclusion that something's being built here. But I think you're being way too optimistic about the mechanism, and frankly, that concerns me.

You're framing this as a mass sigil working like it's a clean, contained process. But in my experience with kundalini awakening โ€” which went sideways in ways I'm still untangling years later โ€” the problem with "just planting a belief" is that you can't control what that belief does once it takes root. You're assuming the reticular activating system filtering for confirmation is a feature. Sometimes it's a trap that spirals.

        "That's not fraud. That's how meaning-making works."

Sure. But meaning-making can break things. I watched my own nervous system rewrite reality for months after an intense inner alchemy practice went off the rails. The brain will absolutely overfit a narrative โ€” I've said this before on here and I'll keep saying it because I don't think the mystical community takes it seriously enough. These TikTok kids aren't just "charging The Tower." They're cracking themselves open without any grounding or integration framework. There's no containment. In chaos magic, from what I understand, you're supposed to have banishing rituals, you're supposed to close things out. These pick-a-pile sessions don't do that. They just leave people in an activated, suggestible state scrolling to the next video.

So yeah, something's being built. But I think it's more like a collective pressure cooker than a sigil. And I've seen what happens when pressure has nowhere to go.
