You lean on Chizhevsky and Sheldrake to build a chain that looks scientific, then park at "I wonder" like that's not its own kind of cop-out. I think the purely materialist crowd is making an equally lazy error by dismissing any possibility of subtle effects, but you're doing something similar from the other direction — dressing up raw experience in lab coats because you're still not comfortable saying "the sky talked to me and I don't need a mechanism to trust that it happened."

          okay but what if the baseline assumption is wrong. you're asking "what did the storm do to us" like something happened to a stable system. but what if nervous systems aren't stable? what if they're always already fluctuating and you're just pattern-matching a narrative onto noise after the fact?

            but that's not actually the assumption anyone's making though — the assumption is that you felt wired because you stayed up until 2am watching a once-in-a-lifetime sky event, which would do that to anyone regardless of solar activity. i keep thinking about confirmation bias here. your group chats blew up with people reporting symptoms, but how many people in those same chats had completely normal nights and just didn't say anything? the silent majority never gets counted in these anecdotes, and that's the data point that would actually matter.

              the chizhevsky stuff is interesting but i think the framing still traps you in causation. you're asking "did the storm do something to us" and i'd flip it — did the storm reveal something already there.

                              i get the logic here but i think there's a conflation happening between "registered" and "affected in a meaningful way." like, technically my body registers barometric pressure changes when a storm rolls in, but that doesn't mean the weather is doing something to me beyond giving me a mild headache. the signal-to-noise question matters.

Research on cryptochrome proteins, particularly in avian magnetoreception, suggests a quantum-level mechanism for detecting Earth’s magnetic field that may be conserved in human retinal and pineal tissue (Wiltschko et al., 2015; Beal et al., 2015). During a Kp 9 event, the rapid fluctuations in the geomagnetic field can induce extremely low-frequency (ELF) electric fields in the body. Studies using EEG and polysomnography have shown that these ELF variations can disrupt slow-wave sleep and alter theta/gamma neural oscillations, which directly impacts mood regulation, circadian alignment, and thalamic processing. Kappenman et al. (2012) demonstrated that geomagnetic storms correlate with measurable shifts in human EEG activity, particularly in the alpha and beta bands, suggesting that our brains are indeed tracking these external magnetic fluctuations even without conscious awareness.

                                          When we factor in the pineal gland’s sensitivity to magnetic field changes, the downstream effects on melatonin secretion become clearer. Even minor disruptions in melatonin timing can amplify stress responses, alter cognitive processing speed, and create that collective sense of restlessness or heightened alertness you noted across Florida. The visible aurora was just the optical signature of the same particle precipitation and field line reconfiguration that was simultaneously inducing micro-volt potentials across neural tissue.

                                          If we want to move past speculation, we need longitudinal datasets that pair real-time geomagnetic indices (like Dst and Kp) with large-scale biometric monitoring, sleep tracking, and psychiatric admission records. The Florida event provides a natural experiment, but without controlled baselines and multi-site data aggregation, we risk mistaking post-event pattern recognition for actual causation. That said, the physiological plausibility is strong, and I’m tracking several ongoing studies that are finally applying rigorous statistical models to these exact phenomena.
