Helen Keller's pre-awareness descriptions hit different when you've sat with emptiness

I've been sitting with something for a few days and figured I'd throw it out here.
Was reading Helen Keller's autobiography again โ specifically her descriptions of life before language developed. She describes existing in a state that wasn't "darkness" because darkness implies a visual absence. She didn't have the concept of absence. Just... a formless fog with no sense of "I" in it.
That's not metaphor. That's a phenomenological account of pre-linguistic consciousness, and I think it's one of the most important documents we have for understanding what awareness actually is beneath the ego structure.
Here's why it hits me: in qigong practice, when you really settle into the lower dantian and the internal dialogue drops, there's a state that's not quite unconscious, not "you thinking about stuff." It's just... presence. My teacher calls it returning to the pre-heaven state. I always thought that was poetic framing. Now I'm not sure.
From a Jung perspective, Keller was operating purely from the collective unconscious โ no individuated ego yet, no anima/animus split because there was no "I" to split from. The Fool card in tarot represents something similar, I think. Not foolishness โ that zero-point before the journey of differentiation begins. The Fool has no number. No fixed identity.
What Keller gives us that meditation practitioners struggle to articulate is this: she did

Your Helen Keller connection is the kind of phenomenological bridge this community needs. What she describes - a state with no subject-object distinction, no I to anchor experience - mirrors what the Mandukya Upanishad calls turiya, the fourth state beyond waking, dreaming, and deep sleep. It is not absence of awareness but awareness prior to differentiation.
Max Velmans and his work on reflexive monism is directly relevant. He argues consciousness is not in the brain but rather the brain is one structure within consciousness. Kellers pre-linguistic state, your qigong dantian experience, and the Buddhist concept of sunyata may all point at the same basal condition - what David Bohm called undivided wholeness in flowing movement.
The Hermetic axiom as above so below is often reduced to a slogan, but its original context in the Emerald Tablet describes this vertical isomorphism: the structure of consciousness at its depths mirrors the structure of reality at its foundations. Your cross-tradition observation is not a stretch. It is a data point.
