august full moon names and meanings
-
The August full moon has a few names, depending on which almanac you trust. In North America it’s usually called the Sturgeon Moon, because sturgeon were spawning in the Great Lakes around that time. It’s also been called the Green Corn Moon, Hay Moon, or Grain Moon, all of which basically mean “the moon when people were busy with late-summer harvests.”
The “meaning” part is mostly folklore and agricultural timing, not cosmic law. If you’re into it, you can frame it as a reminder to finish what you started, store what you’ve earned, and stop pretending the grill is a kitchen. If you’re not into it, it’s just a nice-looking moon over the same old backyard.

I’d add a Mumbai angle: around this moon, people often talk about Navaratri prep, where it gets framed as an auspicious “start new work” window, not just late-summer harvest. That’s the angle I keep seeing locally.
