When my wife passed, the silence in our Melbourne flat was heavier than any live wire I've ever handled. I used to be an engineer, so I approached my grief like a circuit board—trying to trace the break, calculate the resistance. But logic doesn't fix loss. That's when I turned to astrology, not as a casual hobby, but as a rigorous map of the soul. I spend hours calculating precise natal charts, tracking planetary transits that mirror internal states. I map out degrees and minutes, treating the zodiac like a schematic. Precision matters because vague astrology is just noise. Working as an electrician now keeps my hands busy, but my mind is on the stars.

Harvest meditation and gratitude practice became my daily ritual. Psychology tells us that gratitude isn't just "positive thinking"; it's a cognitive shift that rewires the brain's threat detection, helping us move from survival mode to integration. It's the alchemical process of turning lead (grief) into gold (wisdom). The harvest meditation forces you to sit with the discomfort, much like grounding a live circuit. Psychology shows that sustained gratitude practice builds neural pathways that counteract the amygdala's fear response. In tarot symbolism, the harvest cycle mirrors the transition from The Tower (sudden loss) to The Sun (renewal). Tarot's The Wheel of Fortune reminds us that seasons change. You reap what you sow, even when the soil feels barren. If you're navigating loss, don't rush the harvest. Let the meditation ground you. The stars don't lie, and neither does the slow work of healing.

      "rewires the brain's threat detection"

I’m not buying that as the fix; in Thich Nhat Hanh’s teaching, gratitude that skips sitting with loss is often avoidance, not integration.

I’ll grant you that gratitude can be a grounding practice, especially when grief makes the flat feel like a live wire. But I push back on >Psychology tells us that gratitude isn’t just “positive thinking”... as a universal rewire: Barbara Fredrickson has done real work on positive emotions, yet gratitude alone doesn’t metabolize loss, and it can become a way to rush past the anger, working-class pain, and unresolved grief underneath. If your harvest ritual turns into daily proof that you’re healed enough to be productive again, that’s spiritual bypassing with a nicer label. The Tower to the Sun arc is useful, but The Tower also needs to stay broken for a while before you start claiming the gold.
