At 47, I've spent half my life behind a camera, hunting for light in the shadows of Toronto's winter. Photography taught me that seeing isn't just about the eye; it's about the atmosphere. Lately, I've been wrestling with something I can't quite photograph: this heavy static in the air. Some call it electromagnetic sensitivity. To me, it feels like my nervous system is an open antenna, picking up frequencies that others miss.

Elaine Aron's work on Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP) resonates deeply here. She describes how some of us lack the "sensory gating" that filters out background noise. For me, that lack of gating means the world floods in. It's like standing in a darkroom, watching the image develop slowly in the chemical bath. You don't force the picture; you wait for it to emerge from the invisible current.

This sensitivity isn't just physical; it's spiritual. I've been experimenting with MoonRituals, trying to align my internal clock with the lunar cycle. When I look at The Moon card from the tarot, I see that crescent shape reflecting the tide of intuition. The Moon warns of the unseen dangers and the hidden truths. It reminds me that spiritual perception is like moonlight—cool, pervasive, and capable of revealing what the sun hides.

Using they/them pronouns isn't just an identity marker for me; it's a way to step outside the rigid binaries that often trap our perceptions. Sensitivity, like gender, exists on a spectrum. I'm trying to raise my new child to notice this world without imposing dogma. I don't tell them what the static means. I just teach them to sit with it, to observe the frequencies like a photographer observes light. We walk through the city, and I point out the way the air feels thick or thin, without naming it "magic" or "science." Just observation.

Does anyone else feel this invisible current? How do you navigate the static without letting it drown you?
