I spent years in a molecular biology lab where everything had to be measurable, reproducible, and peer-reviewed. Then I switched to software engineering, where I now spend my days debugging code. But lately, I've been diving into somatic therapy as a form of spiritual awakening, and honestly? It's the most frustrating, liberating thing I've ever done.

My brain keeps trying to quantify every shiver, every tremor. I'm still stuck in that scientist mindset, wanting to isolate variables in my own nervous system. But somatic work doesn't care about your hypotheses. It just asks you to feel.

There's this psychology concept called "somatic experiencing," where trauma gets trapped in the body when the fight-or-flight response never completes. For me, spiritual awakening wasn't some mystical vision—it was literally shaking. Like my body was finally finishing a survival response that started years ago. It's like polyvagal theory meets mysticism.

I keep thinking about The Tower card in the Tarot. Everyone fears The Tower, but it's really about sudden release. When I'm in session and my body starts convulsing, it feels exactly like that card: the ego structure cracking open so something bigger can get in. My software engineer side wants to write a script to automate the healing, but you can't patch a nervous system. You have to let the system reboot itself.

I'm living in Asheville, surrounded by crystals and energy healers, and while I roll my eyes at the pseudo-science sometimes, the somatic work is real. It's not about levitation; it's about the body telling you who you are when you stop analyzing. I call this process "InnerAlchemy" — turning the base metal of nervous system dysregulation into the gold of presence. When I'm holding crystals during a session, I'm not expecting them to glow; I'm using them as a tactile anchor while my body does the heavy lifting.

Has anyone else found that the spiritual breakthrough happens right when the body starts shaking?
