When people refer to earth, water, fire, and air, are they treating them as literal substances, symbolic states, or just labels for different qualities of attention? I keep coming back to the idea that earth might be paired with grounding, water with fluidity, fire with energy, and air with spaciousness, but I’m not sure how that would shape a meditation session. Does anyone use a sequence, like starting with earth to settle, then water to soften, fire to energize, and air to open? I’d also be curious whether the aim is to balance the four elements, or simply to notice which one is dominant in the moment. What has worked for you?</p>
