That’s fair, but it sets up a false choice: either it’s doing measurable piezoelectric work, or it’s just a cue. What if the shard is doing something more like a threshold? In my practice, a small object on the desk isn’t a machine that fixes the room. It’s a marker. It says “this surface is not just where I scroll, eat, and doom; it’s where I make things.” The quartz doesn’t have to be scientifically active in the way the word “piezoelectric” suggests to be ritually active. It can be a hard, cold, sharp point of attention. That’s not stupid. It’s just a different category of effect.

The “not stupid about it” line also assumes that the only respectable framework is measurable mechanism. Quartz’s real physics is about stress and charge, not “energy” in the way wellness marketing uses it. So if someone says “aura cleansing” and means a literal electromagnetic field being scrubbed off your body, yeah, I’m out. But if “aura” is a metaphor for the felt charge of a space, then the shard can work by changing how you sit, breathe, and decide. I’ve used stones, pins, small metal objects in performance and studio ritual. They don’t “cure” me. They reorganize the room. They give the nervous system a specific thing to orient around. In Jungian terms, it’s the kind of symbol that can carry projected meaning without the person having to explain it away.
