Reich was a real figure in psychoanalysis, and he built these little boxes and collectors, claiming a cosmic life energy could be accumulated, stored, and used. The problem is that the evidence never really held up. Modern physics and biology don’t have a place for a separate orgone field, and the experiments were mostly anecdotal, poorly controlled, and easy to explain by placebo, thermal effects, or expectation.

What makes it interesting is how Reich’s ideas fit the era. He was trying to bridge psychology, biology, and a kind of vitalism, and that made the concept feel plausible to some people. But plausibility isn’t evidence. The devices didn’t produce reliable, repeatable results, and the broader scientific community moved on. I don’t think Reich was a fraud in every sense, but the orgone part is basically debunked as a physical force. It remains a curiosity in the history of science, more than a working theory.
