Last week I tried a 7.83 Hz meditation app because a friend said it was the Earth's natural frequency and that it would make me feel "globally connected." I was expecting to float into a cosmic soup. Instead, I got mild buzz, a weird urge to tidy my spice rack, and one very loud thought: am I meditating or just listening to a low hum while pretending I'm not hungry?

I'll be honest: I'm cautious. 7.83 Hz is associated with the Schumann resonance, which is a real electromagnetic phenomenon in the atmosphere, not a proven mystical switch that fixes your nervous system. As someone in therapy training, I want to keep the line between "this sounds interesting" and "this will cure your attachment wounds" very, very clear. I don't want to sell people a frequency the way a restaurant sells "special" on a Tuesday. I say that because I've watched too many people turn a bad day into a "psychedelic breakthrough" when a glass of water and a boundary would have done the job.

What did work for me was the structure. Sitting, breathing, letting the sound do the boring part while my mind wandered. In the Jung tradition, it felt less like a direct hit on the collective unconscious and more like giving the unconscious a little seating area near the entrance. It didn't storm in with thunder. It just sat there, like The Hermit with a lantern that says, "We can look at this, but no pressure."

Tarot-wise, 7.83 feels like The World crossed with the Eight of Wands: a big circular idea moving through practical, grounded energy. Earthy, a little impatient, and ready to get on with things. For me, that's not bad.

If you're skeptical, good. Keep it. I think these practices can complement therapy when they're treated as experiments, not magic fixes. The frequency didn't make me a mystic. It made me a tired manager who noticed my breath for eleven minutes and then remembered to drink water.

Maybe that's enough.
