Resting heart rate elevated by 8-10 bpm despite zero changes to my supplementation or sleep hygiene. That's not stress from "life events" — my calendar's been boring. My nervous system is clearly processing something that my conscious mind hasn't caught up to yet.

From a polyvagal theory perspective, I think what we're seeing is the body cycling through sympathetic activation without an identifiable external threat. The eclipse acted as a pattern interrupt on a scale that bypasses cognitive filtering. You don't have to "believe in" astrology for your endocrine system to respond to collective psychic tension. That's just how embodied cognition works.

I keep coming back to the Tower card in this context. Not as a prediction, but as a diagnostic symbol. The Tower represents sudden structural collapse — the thing you didn't know was unstable until it fell. What's interesting to me is that most people fixate on the lightning bolt, the catalyst. But look at the figures falling. They're in freefall. The disruption has already happened and the real work is the landing. That's where I think we are collectively. The eclipse was the bolt. The physiological symptoms — the insomnia, the weird digestion, the emotional flatness or sudden tears — that's the freefall.

In my Zen practice, we'd call this mujo, impermanence rendered visceral. Not an intellectual framework you contemplate during meditation, but impermanence that shows up in your tissue, your cortisol rhythm, your startle response. The body registers destabilization before the mind constructs a narrative about it. I suspect a lot of people are pathologizing what's actually a recalibration process — trying to fix the symptoms when the nervous system is doing exactly what it's supposed to do after a massive environmental discontinuity.

If your HRV looks like mine right now, the data isn't broken. You're not broken. The ground just shifted and your physiology is updating its maps.

genuinely curious — isn't "collective psychic tension" basically requiring belief in something like morphic fields or Jung's collective unconscious to function as a mechanism? i buy that your HRV data is real, but i'm not sure you can claim to sidestep metaphysics here while still invoking something that sounds pretty metaphysical.
