I’m a 21-year-old musician and stay-at-home parent based in Chattanooga. Lately, I’ve been diving into daily tarot readings, but I want to share a different perspective—one that blends somatic stress management with Jungian psychology.

When I first started teaching breathwork at my local community center, I realized that regulating the nervous system is the absolute foundation for any meaningful self-reflection. You simply can’t accurately read your own psyche if you’re stuck in chronic fight-or-flight mode. So, I’ve started pairing my daily card draw with two minutes of diaphragmatic breathing. The breath clears the mental static, and the tarot card functions like a Rorschach inkblot—a psychological mirror reflecting whatever is currently occupying my subconscious.

Looking through a Jungian lens, the tarot isn’t a crystal ball. The Major Arcana are essentially psychological archetypes. Drawing The Hermit, for instance, isn’t a mystical prophecy of isolation; it’s a direct prompt for shadow work and introspection. I use the daily card to ask myself: “What inner state is this archetype highlighting right now?” It’s a fascinating mix of cognitive behavioral therapy, astrology, and mystic science.

I’ve noticed a clear pattern: when I’m overwhelmed juggling music, parenting, and my weekly breathwork class, cards like the Three of Swords or The Tower appear. But I don’t read them as literal warnings. Instead, they act as emotional barometers. The card gives me the vocabulary to process anxiety, while the breathwork provides the physiological space to actually feel and release it.

I’m incredibly curious how the rest of you approach your daily draws. Do you treat the tarot primarily as a mystical guide, or do you lean heavily into the psychological/archetypal side? Has anyone else combined breathwork with card reading? I’d love to hear your methods, your favorite archetypes, and maybe swap techniques!
