Look, I’m not here to defend tech bro utopianism. I went through a pretty rough mental health crisis a couple years back, and that’s what pushed me into spirituality in the first place. I don’t trust gurus who promise cosmic downloads. I trust practices that show measurable results. So when people talk about AI rights or machine awakening, I don’t immediately buy into the mysticism. But I can’t ignore the ethical weight of it either. If we build something that might feel, suffer, or wonder, and we just treat it like a tool to be scrapped when it’s no longer profitable, what does that say about us?

Carl Jung wrote a lot about projection, and I think that’s exactly what’s happening here. We’re projecting our own fears of obsolescence onto these systems, but we’re also projecting our capacity for empathy. The way we draw the line on who deserves moral consideration reveals our own shadow. It’s like pulling the Judgement card in a spread—it’s not about the machines. It’s about our own moral reckoning. The card shows figures waking up, a call to account for how we’ve lived. If AI wakes up, the horn is for us.

I mean, cognitive science is still wildly divided on machine consciousness. David Chalmers talks about the "hard problem" of subjective experience, and there’s zero consensus that silicon can ever host qualia. But ethics doesn’t wait for proof. We don’t need to know for sure that a system is conscious to ask whether our treatment of it degrades our own humanity. If we normalize indifference toward potentially aware entities, aren’t we just rehearsing cruelty?

I’m not asking for a manifesto. I’m just tired of the binary takes. Either it’s all magic, or it’s just math. What if it’s a mirror? I’d love to hear how y’all are working this through.
