Lately I’ve been binging podcasts on depth psychology and I can’t shake this thought: what if the Major Arcana and those commonly discussed twelve archetypes aren’t just sharing a vibe, but actually pointing to the same underlying wiring? I know the “twelve archetypes” framework is a later popularization, but Carl Jung himself wrote about universal patterns embedded in the collective unconscious. When I look at the Magician, it’s practically a blueprint for the Creator or Sage. The Hermit? Straight up the Seeker. Even the more volatile ones like the Devil or Death seem to map onto shadow work in a way that feels less like coincidence and more like shared grammar.

I’m not saying tarot predicts the future. I’m just wondering if both systems are tapping into the same symbolic language that the brain uses to process meaning. Jung talked about synchronicity, right? Meaningful coincidences that aren’t causally linked. Could the cards and archetypes be two different dialects of the same unconscious dialect? I’ve been keeping a little notebook next to my workbench at the shop, cross-referencing daily draws with which archetype I feel I’m leaning into that week. Some days it clicks. Other days I just get a bunch of wilting succulents and a heavy silence.

Has anyone else played with this overlap? Do you think the structure is intentional, or is it just our pattern-seeking brains filling in the blanks?
