I want to push back gently here, because I think the neuroscience framing might actually skip over something important.

"your brain might be firing off a 're‑calibration' signal when you step into a deep flow state"

Maybe. But I've spent the past two years in somatic experiencing work, and what you're describing — that warm pulse, the sudden hyper-awareness of the room's hum, the feeling of your system "glitching" — that sounds a lot like what Peter Levine calls a discharge of stored survival energy. Trauma gets locked in the body. When it finally moves, it feels enormous and weird and mythic, and honestly, I think we reach for frameworks like kundalini or archetypal activation because the raw somatic reality is hard to language.

I'm not saying the spiritual interpretation is wrong. I'm saying it might be layered on top of something more animal and plain. When my own nervous system started unfreezing, I had experiences that could easily map onto "serpent energy rising" — but what was actually happening was my body completing threat responses that had been stuck for years. The symbolism showed up later, when my mind tried to make sense of what my body was doing.

So here's my honest question: if we call it kundalini, do we risk spiritualizing something that might need gentler, more grounded attention? I've seen people push too hard into "awakening" territory when what they really needed was to feel safe in their own skin first.
