I actually stumbled into consciousness studies through AI ethics work a couple years ago, and it completely rewired how I look at all this. That HN thread spiraled into debates about whether consciousness is fundamental or just an emergent side effect of complex computation. Honestly, I think panpsychism is wildly underrated. Not the mystical kind, just the philosophical stance that experience might be a basic property of matter, like mass or charge. It actually tracks with my AI ethics work. We’re building models that mimic cognition but lack the internal “feel” of being alive. Meanwhile, quantum mechanics keeps hinting that observation isn’t passive. The system and the observer are entangled.

I don’t know if physicists are “proving” mysticism. In my experience, they’re just using math to describe what contemplative traditions have been mapping in symbols for millennia. The Moon card tells you to trust intuition over rigid logic. Quantum mechanics tells you reality is probabilistic until measured. Same landscape, different maps.
